About the Innomediary Research Project

What is Innomediary.com?

Innomediary.com is a website that functions as a crowdsourcing platform. It will be used during the Innomediary Research Project to inform participants on upcoming Challenges and participants will be able to contribute their Ideas using the tools on the website.

What is the Innomediary Research Project?

The Innomediary Research Project (IRP) is a unique research project of the Innovation Co-Creation Lab that investigates crowdsourcing through Innomediary.com. The goal of the research is to gain a better understanding how different processes in a crowdsourcing platform influence the outcomes of crowdsourcing Challenges.

What is the Innovation Co-Creation Lab?

The Innovation Co-Creation Lab (ICCL) is a research institute that consists of researchers from both the Rotterdam School of Management and the London School of Economics. Its main research goal is to explore how companies can create value through new ways of innovation. One of its centres of expertise is build around the concept of crowdsourcing. Please visit our website for more information: http://www.icclab.com/

What is crowdsourcing?

Crowdsourcing is defined as ‘the act of taking a job traditionally performed by a designated agent (usually an employee) and outsourcing it to an undefined, generally large group of people in the form of an open call’. In the Innomediary Research Project a particular form of crowdsourcing will be investigated in which organizations will ask participants to contribute Ideas to Challenges they are currently facing.

How long will the Innomediary Research Project take?

The IRP will take approximately three months, starting October 1st and ending December 18th.

What is a Challenge?

A question or issue that an organization has placed on Innomediary.com is called a Challenge. Participants can contribute as many Ideas as they want to a Challenge. Each Challenge consists of a detailed description of the issue, a background description of the organization, and an overview of the criteria on which Ideas will be rated. A new Challenge will start each week on Monday from October 12th until November 30th.

Which organizations will post a Challenge?

For the Challenges we have asked several organizations that we think can offer interesting issues for students to think about and contribute to. During the course of the project we will announce upcoming Challenges. So keep an eye out for updates on the website!

How many Challenges will be available?

Participants will be able to contribute their Ideas to eight Challenges. A new Challenge will start each week on Monday from October 12th until November 30th.

What is an Idea?

All contributions to a Challenge are called Ideas.

What are the requirements of an Idea?

For each Challenge the specific requirements will be made clear under the “details” section. However, in general an Idea should consist of 300-1000 words. There are no requirements in the formatting of an Idea, but the tool on the website allows for several options to improve the presentation of your Ideas.

What is the procedure for rating the Idea?

Each Challenge will be closed after exactly two weeks. All ideas that have been contributed to the Challenge will be randomly assigned a number and will be made anonymous. Your anonymous ideas will be then be reviewed and rated by the organization that posted the Challenge. The criteria on which the organization will rate the Ideas is mentioned in the “details” section of each Challenge. One week after the Challenge deadline we will post the top 5 Ideas of the Challenge on the website. All Ideas will receive a short commentary from the individuals who rated the Ideas.

I have won. What now?

We will ask all reward winners for their bank account numbers after the research project has ended in January 2010 (the Challenges end just before Christmas and the final questionnaires are in January). We will then transfer the total reward each member has earned to his/her bank account. In this way, we will only have to do a single payment to each member.
